Mayank Yadav won the Player of the Match award on his IPL debut.
Legendary Australia pacer Brett Lee has lavished rich praise on India’s latest pace sensation Mayank Yadav. Yadav made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on March 30 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Lucknow, leaving everyone stunned with his searing pace.
Setting the speed gun on fire, the 21-year-old made headlines during the IPL 2024 by bowling the fastest ball of the season at 155.8 kmph. It’s the sixth fastest ball ever bowled in IPL history, trailing only Shaun Tait’s 157.7 kmph record, and the second-best by an Indian after Umran Malik.
All praised Mayank’s efforts, but the night was made much sweeter for the Indian teenager when he earned appreciation from none other than Brett Lee, one of the quickest bowlers of all time.
The former Australia quick shared a brilliant post praising Mayank: “India has just found its fastest bowler. Mayank Yadav, Raw pace. Very impressive”
Mayank Yadav wins Player of the Match on his IPL debut with figures of 3/27
Making his IPL debut for the LSG, Yadav concluded with 3/27 and was named Player of the Match as LSG defeated the Punjab Kings by 21 runs for their first win of the season. Mayank bowled 18 of the 24 balls at 145 kmph or above, which is an impressive performance in and of itself.
However, after warming up, Yadav unleashed a blistering speed in his second over. Bowled at nearly 156kph, his pace troubled Dhawan, as the PBKS captain gave himself room but failed to connect bat and ball. Mayank improved on it, bowling one thunderbolt after another, including a 153 kmph ripper in the same over.
Mayank was picked by LSG at the IPL 2022 auction for his base price of ₹20 lakh, but the pacer didn’t get a chance that season. Then unfortunately Mayank had to miss the entire IPL 2023 season due to injury.
